Welcome to the
Summer 1997 Season

By Andy Mead, BYOC

Hello. Most of you already know me, but as the new League president, I thought I would introduce myself.

I am currently Captain of Boulevard Tavern's Mur-Eez Specials. I am one of the nine remaining players (Jason, Kyle, Kevin, Anita, Rich, Robby, Catherine, and Doug are the others) who have played in all 13 seasons of the Bull City Dart League. Currently I also play for The Donner Party in the Raleigh Dart League and Durham's NC City Dart League team. I have also been known to throw in Chapel Hill's Triangle Dart League on occasion. I was BCDL Statistician for the first seven seasons, and I still maintain the software that Patrick uses. Finally I've filled in as editor from time to time, producing the BCDL News.

First off, I would like to encourage you all (y'all, all of you) to contact me. I am very interested in what the membership of the League is thinking. When working with the rest of the Executive Board I would prefer to know exactly what the League wants, as opposed to going solely on my own opinions. My phone numbers and e-mail address are on Page 2, please introduce yourselves.

As most of you know by now, the League is running in the red. The League had to spend nearly $800 of this Season's dues to cover the debt carried over from the end of last Season. The other members of the Executive Board and myself have take steps to stop the overspending. It will take us two or three seasons to get back to zero, but we will do it. We will do it while still giving out the same awards, the same newsletter, and still having a party. Over the next three seasons the League will be doing several things to raise funds. Among the possibilities are selling T-shirts, selling beer cozies, holding raffles, holding weekly Luck of the Draws with mystery outs, etc... We didn't get into this mess all in one season, and it is going to take time to get out. If any of you would like more information, or have any good ideas, please call me.

I would like to ask one favor of the League:

Recruit

This season there are barely one hundred players in the BCDL. The Spring 1996 Season saw 167 players step to the line. If Raleigh can support over 500 players, and Chapel Hill can continually top 120, we too can do better. There is no reason that the BCDL and our neighboring Tobacco Road Dart League can't combine to have over 200 throwers. Let your friends, relatives, and neighbors know about the fun going on every Tuesday night.

Finally, I want everyone to enjoy the season. Please remember that this is a hobby for all of us. Competitive, yes; but still a hobby. Please be considerate to your teammates, your opponents, and the other patrons in the bar. Good luck and shoot 'em straight.
